Do we need soap?

Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, is a new illness that can affect your lungs and airways.

The symptoms of Coronavirus are, a cough, high temperature and shortness of breath. However these symptoms are similar to other illnesses that are much more common, make sure you check the symptoms and up-to-date information provided by the government and health officials.

It is proven that the best way to prevent transmission of Coronavirus is by washing your hands, thoroughly, with soap.

Due to their high pH value soaps bars are naturally antibacterial, as bacteria cannot propagate on a pH of 9 or more, which means they are also better for the environment because we are not washing chemicals into our water system; this applies to all saponified soap bars. After hand washing the pH of hands will be significantly higher and contribute to the viral inactivation of COVID-19. With Coronavirus the soap works to disrupt the fatty acid outer layer of the virus (not bacteria), causing it to dissolve, break apart and consequently wash away.

It is recommended to wash your hands with soap and water often and to do this for at least 20 seconds. Washing your hands properly removes dirt, viruses and bacteria to help stop them spreading to other people and objects. You can use hand sanitisers if soap and water are not available.

It goes without saying that the health of the nation, our friends and family is of the upmost importance. We all need to look after each other. With all the uncertainty at the moment i am sending my love and prayers to everyone. Stay safe. With love Claire xx
